Q Am I a candidate for the procedure?
A Any man with normal anatomy and reasonably good health is a suitable candidate.
Q What kind of anesthesia is used?
A We use local anesthesia with intravenous sedation so you don't feel anything
during the procedure while avoiding the after-effects and potential risk of general
anesthesia.
Q How long does the procedure take?
A Usually about 1 ½ hours.
Q When can I go back to work?
A If your job involves light physical activity, you can return within one or two days.
If your job involves strenuous physical activity, we recommend about 10 days.
Q When can I go back to the gym?
A Usually in two weeks, though upper body exercises can be done immediately.
Q When can I resume sex?
A We recommend avoiding sexual activity for four weeks.
Q Do I need to be circumcised?
A You don't need to be circumcised to have the procedure, but you can expect to
have a lot of swelling of the foreskin if you aren't. It will go down, but will take
a number of weeks. If you wish, this is an ideal time to be circumcised.
Q How much pain is there?
A Some men have virtually no pain, while others have a lot. We are unable to
predict how much pain a given individual will have, but we will give you an
adequate amount of medication so you are comfortable.
Q Will it affect erection?
A There should be no change in the quality of erection. Some men will have a
slight decrease in angulation, but most have absolutely no change.
Q What kind of increase can I expect and will it be permanent?
A You can expect an increase in length of one to two inches and an increase in cir-
circumference of 30-40%. The results are permanent, though there may be a
little shrinkage of fat if you choose this procedure.
Q If I'm from out the area, how long will I need to stay out there?
A You will need to be seen the day before your procedure and we'd like you to
stay for a total of three nights.
Q What are the risks and potential complications?
A As with any operation, there is always the possibility of infection and bleeding.
Fortunately, we have never had a case of severe bleeding. Some men will have
a decrease in sensitivity, which ordinarily returns to normal within 8-12 weeks. It
is reported that one in a thousand has a permanent change.
If there is too much pressure on the skin, from either excessive swelling or a
bandage applied to tightly, there may be a break-down of the skin. This can be
completely avoided with proper post-op care. Right after the operation, some
men will have a shorter erect length. This is due to the normal healing process.
When it occurs it will usually resolve within 4-6 months, at which time the full
length with erection will be apparent. On some occasions it takes a bit longer,
and very rarely there will be long term shortening. The few times this has
occurred, it has generally been from not following the post-operative instructions.
