Penile girth enlargement was originally performed by removing some fat by liposuction and then injecting it under the skin of the penis. Some men had good results, but too many had significant reabsorption of the fat or developed unsightly lumps, requiring additional procedures. This sent us in search of a better method, which led to the development of the dermal fat-graft. The long-term results of this penile girth procedure were much better, though not perfect, but recovery was much more difficult and patients were left with large scars from where the grafts were taken.
In 1998 we started using AlloDerm, material obtained from donor skin which is treated so there is no possible rejection or transmission of infections. Our results using AlloDerm have been so successful and patient satisfaction has been so great that we no longer offer the other methods. We are much happier when our patients are happy. The only drawback to AlloDerm is the cost, but when you consider you will be living with the results the rest of your life, we feel the added expense is a small price to pay.
Several strips of AlloDerm are stacked on top of each other and then placed under the skin along the upper half to two-thirds of the penile shaft. The result is a smooth, even expansion of the shaft, adding approximately 30-40% in circumference. Over time, your own cells grow into it and it ultimately becomes your own tissue. Once healing is complete and all swelling is gone, it will look and feel completely natural, unlike the results with fat.
